Medical Dermatology in Phoenix, AZ

Medical Dermatology includes any skin disease that affects the skin, hair or nails. The skin is the largest organ of the body and dermatology professionals including our Doctors, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners treat common diseases that many people get, such as acne, rashes and warts; however, we treat rare diseases, too.

Skin Cancer Surveillance
At Ahwatukee Skin & Laser, we pride ourselves on providing a full and complete exam for skin cancer screening and surveillance. With the soaring rates of skin cancer in Arizona, a cursory “please take your shirt off” approach does not work for us. Because skin cancer can form anywhere on the skin, even where the sun does not shine, it is imperative that a complete exam be performed by a trained dermatology professional at least once each year in the land of the sun, often times more frequently depending on your risk factors.

Our staff will perform the exam and then discuss how to complete a self-exam monthly, review the ABCDE’s of skin cancer and how to spot it, as well as review your choice of sunscreen and SPF and application guidelines.

If a skin cancer is found, we provide a full complement of treatment methods including surgery (excisions), Mohs surgery (used for cosmetically sensitive areas and or invasive cancers), Levulan or ALA PDT therapy (amino levulanic acid with blu light therapy), topical immune modulators (Aldara, Zyclara, Imiquimod and Picato), topical Chemotherapy (Efudex, 5 FU, Carac, Fluoroplex), and Electrodessication and Curettage (ED & C). See our Skin Cancer Section for more details.

With more cases of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) diagnosed in the U.S. each year, it is now considered an epidemic. If caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable.
