How You Can Improve Your Circulation for Glowing Skin

The skin is your body’s largest organ and your first line of defense against invaders that can make you ill. If your skin isn’t healthy, your health will be compromised. There are a number of reasons why it is important to do things that keep your skin healthy. Blood vessels run throughout your body and are also located in the layers on and under your skin. If your circulation is impaired by illness, medication, or poor nutritional habits, then your skin can be one of the first places to develop problematic symptoms. These symptoms can include dry skin, poor wound healing, and skin discoloration (which indicates poor circulation). There are several ways you can improve your circulation and improve the overall appearance and health of your skin.

Drinking enough water, a minimum of 64 ounces daily, can improve the appearance of your skin as well as maintain overall better health. Improving the appearance of your skin is as easy as decreasing the amount of chemicals, sodium, and fat that you are consuming. Eat a diet that emphasizes healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats and low or nonfat dairy products. Sodium and other common preservatives can cause dehydration and premature aging that is initially evident on your skin.

Your circulation can also be improved by increasing your amount of daily physical activity. Physical activity includes brisk walking and this simple activity increases the amount of oxygen-rich blood that reaches your skin, in turn helping facilitate healing and adding a healthy glow by removing impurities. Bathing regularly and using a cleanser that doesn’t contain harsh chemicals can also help improve the appearance of your skin. Exfoliation of your skin can increase blood flow when you bathe, increasing circulation and helping to remove dirt that can make your skin appear dull. If you find that your legs in particular tend to swell or look duller as the day wears on, consider elevating them for a few minutes to improve circulation. You are in control and ultimately, hold the power to improve the appearance of your skin.
