What your skin says about your health

The skin is one of the most telltale signs of the body that can give you clues as to the health and well-being of someone. You can look at someone and find out whether they are feeling well simply by assessing the color and condition of her skin. Though this is a baseline method of finding out the overall health of someone, it can be used as a great guide and gauge when you suspect something may be amiss in your own body.

Skin should be soft, well hydrated and have an even appearance. You can detect issues when you see sallow skin tones, uneven patches of coloration, and dry or damaged skin. These can all be signs or symptoms of underlying medical issues. Though some of the reasons skin looks unhealthy are rooted in poor diet, lack of sleep, stress or even improper skin care, other skin conditions can suggest something more serious.

If you notice ¬†yellow tinted skin, you may have an underlying issue presenting in the form of jaundice; a bluish tint may be a sign of circulatory problems. The fact that the skin is the largest organ of the human body is one of the reasons why you can pick up subtle and not so subtle clues on your health condition (or someone else’s) simply by evaluating the skin’s appearance.

If you or a loved one have any of the above skin symptoms, it’s important to see your doctor about possible health concerns to improve overall health and appearance.
